02 Nov SONY A7RII / Zeiss at Hulaween
The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park hosted Hulaween, a multi-day music festival and visual arts experience from October 30 – November 1, 2015.
This series was shot with the SONY A7R II and Zeiss f2.8 35mm and 55mm lenses. Walking away from the shoot, I was impressed with the light weight of the body and lens combination and felt able to shoot in any situation. It felt perfect and I didn’t want to return it.
The main regret of this system was not having a super wide angle available to shoot the festival. I’m happy with the results, but feel like the 24-240 zoom would work well during the day. Even with the wide apertures and better than most ISO sensor availability, I had to do a lot of noise reduction in post on many of the images. The A7R might have a larger sensor compared to many Nikon & Canon models, but the ISO performance wasn’t nearly as good as its video version, the A7S. Having both at a festival setting would be the ideal still shot/video combination for size, portability, and image quality.
