10 Jun Biophilia: Florida Keys
PHOTOGRAPHED & WRITTEN BY MIKEAL BELAND
The remote Florida Keys are ground zero for climate change in the United States, 170 miles west of Miami in the Gulf of Mexico. While most of the state will experience coastal erosion and flooding if the ocean rises 6 feet in the next 100 years, more than 95% of the existing keys will be under water. The 8″ sea level rise since 1870 is already apparent.
